Another member of Three 6 Mafia has died. Rapper Robert "Koopsta Knicca" Phillips passed away Friday at the age of 40.

According to his Facebook Page, Phillips was on life support due to an aneurysm. He later died Friday.

Three 6 Mafia started as an independent, Memphis-based rap group in the mid-1990s and went on to place multiple albums on the Billboard charts. They also won an Oscar for the song It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp, featured on the soundtrack of the 2005 film Hustle & Flow.

The group rebranded itself as Da Mafia 6ix on its 2015 album, Watch What U Wish. It featured a revolving cast of performers over the years alongside rappers/producers Juicy J and DJ Paul.

Three 6 Mafia co-founder DJ Paul confirmed Knicca's death, saying in a statement that the rapper "went in peace … Everyone who knew Koop knew he was very funny and the coolest guy ever. He will be missed. We made classics together that'll live on."

Former Three 6 Mafia member Juicy J also posted on Instagram, "R.I.P koopsta Knicca we made history! You will be missed #mafia4life prayers up for the family."

Phillips is the second member of Three 6 Mafia to die in two years. Ricky Dunigan, known as Lord Infamous, died in December 2013.
